The RFEF Appeals Committee decided today to “consider the appeal put forward by FC Barcelona” and has rescinded the second yellow card shown to Leo Messi following the goal celebrations in Sunday’s league match at Mestalla.
“From the evidence presented including the television sequence, it is not clear that the player can be accused of deliberate time-wasting; the reaction was normal for someone who had been a victim of hooliganism from the stands” the Committee stated, contradicting the match official’s report and the RFEF Competitions Committee.
Real Madrid meanwhile had their appeal to see the booking issued to Isco in the weekend meeting with Málaga overturned rejected by the appeals board. The midfielder’s one-match suspension stands, meaning he will miss Saturday’s home game against Celta de Vigo. According to the Committee, “the existence of any error of judgement cannot de clearly determined” and also because “the referee is the sole authority and his decision in this instance cannot be overruled”.
