Jesé, the "new" winter singing

When Jesé started to warm up during the second half of Tuesday’s cup game against Cornellà, the match took on another dimension. The 50.000 fans paid tribute to the player with a round of applause that continued for some minutes. Just before coming onto play and after more than 250 days out of action following his knee injury, the young player got an emotional hug from the Italian coach. Ancelotti was about to see his winter signing back in action.

A “signing” that has returned with a vengeance. In just 34 minutes he made 20 passes, of which 80% were accurate (just seven less than Chicharito, for example who played the full game), a deft back heel, a great display of strength and a goal. Despite the match being a foregone conclusion, his goal ignited the Bernabéu. This was his ninth goal in 1.231 minutes of playing time (34 games) with the Real Madrid first team. Jesé scores a goal every 137th minute...

Ancelotti has a clear plan mapped out for Jesé. He plans to give him progressive playing time. He won’t play on Saturday against Celta, but will be used next Tuesday against Ludogorets, with Madrid already into the next round as group leader. The idea is to have him play for 30 minutes. He will also be used in Morocco at the Club World Cup. The coaching staff want the player back in optimum form for the last part of the league campaign and there is a feeling at the club that last year’s league title run-in may have been a different matter had the Canarian been fit to play.

With Madrid on their exceptional run of 17 back-to-back wins, Jesé has a battle on his hands to get back into the starting eleven. Cristiano, Bale and Benzema are the natural forwards. Last season Jesé managed to play when Cristiano was serving a three match sanction and when Bale was out with injury. On Tuesday we saw the potential of this player with strength, talent and an ability to score. The new signing of the winter is already here...
