Fernando Torres took part in his first full training session at Atlético since he came back to Madrid, and where he was warmly welcomed by fans and players alike. As soon as he came out onto the pitch he was enveloped in a bear hug from his former teammate and now his coach, Diego Simeone. All the Atleti players greeted him too before the training session started, and he was given the standard guard of honour that new players are met with – Torres had to run between his new teammates receiving various slaps and friendly punches.
The fans were keen to welcome their returning hero and nearly 300 people were behind the fences of the training ground to see El Niño return home. The player will be presented on 4 January at 1pm in the Calderón.
Torres took part in the first part of the training session with the other Atleti players. He did the stretching routine next to Raúl García, with whom he had a great chat. For the second part of the session Torres went off to train alone, while the squad carried on as normal.
