River Plate and Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Argentina U20s goalkeeper Augusto Batalla. The announcement is set to be made official in the coming hours before the transfer window closes in Spain.
Batalla is currently Argentina’s most promising goalkeeper and River president Rodolfo D’Onofrio said a few days ago that it would be difficult to hold on to his young shot-stopper. “Real Madrid want him. We will have to see if River can hold on to him.”
Real Madrid have been looking for a young goalkeeper for the future. Iker Casillas has said on several occasions that he wants to remain at the club until his contract is up in 2017, when he will be 36. By then, Keylor Navas will be 31 and Batalla has been signed as a potential future starter for the club.
