In an interview with ESPNDeportes.com, the Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes directed praise toward Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who was criticised recently after he was sent off in the European champions' 2-1 win at Córdoba.
Cristiano Ronaldo: “He is the best footballer in history, the best sportsman in history, there has never been a player like him, he still has a significant lead over the second. Many times people are unfair when they speak about Cristiano: at 16 he was already the best in the world and now he has become a machine. And if you don’t know Cristiano as a person, you can be sure that you would love him. He is an example for the kids, for society.”
Cristiano at Córdoba: “You are hot and you have an argument, and sometimes…but what happens is that it’s Cristiano, and it’s not easy being Cristiano. He is a human being and he has good moments and bad ones, like everyone.”
Room for improvement: “During the time I have known him, he has always wanted to improve, but he will continue to evolve. He is a guy who takes care of himself a lot and knows what he should do. There should be a study of what Cristiano is like off the field – it would help many kids.”
