Osasuna are unable to prove the reality of various payments totalling 2,416,611 euros, according to information seen by this newspaper. The club has the payments annotated as follows: 900,000 euros to two real estate agents, Cristina Valencia and Alberto Nolla; 1,440, 000 euros to the company Flefield, and 76,611 euros paid to a players agent, with the surname López.
The League is aware of the irregularities and is investigating whether these could be connected to a supposed match fixing in the Espanyol – Osasuna game, played last year on 11 May 2014 in the Power8 Stadium, which finished with a 1-1 draw. The draw meant Espanyol were guaranteed safety in the second last game of last season, while Osasuna kept their hopes of staying up alive right to the last day of the championship. In the end though Osasuna went down.
The League became concerned about Osasuna, when they noted various large payments in cash noted in the club’s accounts: 900,000 euros in June 2013; 300,000 euros in January 2014; 375,000 euros in May 2014 and 765,000 euros in June 2014.
League officials are now studying whether to take Osasuna to court to get to the bottom of the payments.
Osasuna president Luis Sabalza, who took over the post in December 2014, said the new administration are cooperating with the league and providing all information necessary to get to the bottom of the matter. He also said that League boss Tebas had assured him that the club itself would not be punished provided it cooperated and that the aim of the investigation was to get to the individuals responsible for any possible wrong-doing.
Sabalza said that around 1.5 million euros had been paid “without being correctly justified” and that this was “strange”.
