The future of Marco Reus seems to have moved away from the Santiago Bernabéu. German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten say the German international and his club, Borussia Dortmund, have advance their negotiations to extend his stay at the club. His current deal currently lasts until June 2017 but talks have advanced so much that an announcement could be made this month, according to the newspaper.
Dortmund’s intention is to take out, or significantly increase, the clause that exists in his current contract whereby the player can buy out his contract before the end of April for a fixed amount of 30 million euros. A circumstance that neither Bayern nor Real Madrid took advantage of to sign the 25-year-old, who has been capped 23 times by Germany. Hans-Joachin Watzke, the chief executive of Dortmund, today said that “the ball is now in the court of Reus.”
The possible contract renewal comes in one of the worst years Reus has experienced in Dortmund’s first team. He has suffered two injuries which have seen him sidelined for 14 games. With the national team he has not featured since September and a 4-2 defeat against Argentina. He had no qualms about signing Madrid shirts when the German national team visited Alicante the month after.
