Varane and Illarra train apart from the group at Valdebebas

Real Madrid returned to Valdebebas today to start their preparations for Saturday’s visit of Deportivo La Coruña. Carlo Ancelotti and his men are out to make amends after Saturday’s 4-0 reverse against Atlético Madrid.

The Italian coach started work ahead of returning to the Bernabéu and facing the fans after the drubbing at the Calderón. The first session of the week featured 16-year-old Martin Odegaard, who made his debut with Real Madrid Castilla on Sunday in the 2-2 draw with Athletic Club B in Segunda Division B.

As usual, goalkeepers Iker Casillas, Keylor Navas and Fernando Pacheco worked on specific training and the rest of the squad worked separately.

Frenchman Raphael Varane, who started at the Calderón, and Asier Illarramendi, who came on as a substitute, worked indoors, according to the club.

Ancelotti also found out today that he will be without German midfielder Sami Khedira for at least three weeks. He suffered an injury to his left hamstring.

Khedira joins Sergio Ramos, Pepe, James Rodríguez and Luka Modric in the treatment room. The injury to the German opens the door to more minutes for Illarramendi and could also see the debut of recent addition Lucas Silva.

The Madrid squad will return to training at 11:00 tomorrow, again behind closed doors.
