Atlético Madrid against Valencia, third against fourth in La Liga, has also aroused interest from foreign supporters, those who love football or who are on holiday in Madrid and may not have seen either of the teams in action at the Calderón on Sunday. The club has sold 500 so-called ‘tourist packs’, an important figure for the club beside the Manzanares.
The games that attract the most interest amongst foreign fans are the derby match and the visit of Barcelona. For these matches, Atlético sell 1,000 tourist packages. Then comes Atlético-Valencia. For a ‘normal’ La Liga home fixture Atleti sell between 200 and 300 packages. The pull of this game therefore not only applies to domestic Atleti fans, but foreign football supporters, too.
There are 2,000 tickets left across all price ranges in the home end. Yesterday, Atleti sold 1,000 tickets (the number sold each day), with a number of membership card holders giving their ticket back to the club to sell because they cannot attend this weekend’s match. The 21:00 CET kick-off time also makes it more difficult for older fans and children to attend. With both clubs playing for third place and the Champions League, an exceptional atmosphere is set for the Calderón.
