Velázquez: "Atleti haven't called, we'll talk in the summer"

Emiliano Velázquez is enjoying a superb season with Getafe, the club he arrived at last summer on loan from Atlético Madrid. It’s thought that the Uruguayan, who has broke into his national squad alongside Atlético’s José Giménez, could be recalled by Diego Simeone to strengthen Atleti next season.

The former Danubio player is waiting on any news. “Atleti have not called me. I am with another team, with Getafe. They are still with work to do so when the season ends I will look at every opportunity I have. They have very good players and it will be very difficult to replace them in a starting role (Godín, Giménez and Miranda). For now, I’d rather be sure that I’ll play. I am only 20 and I don’t want to be on the sidelines for a season.”

Velázquez is eternally grateful to Getafe for the chance he’s been given to play in La Liga. “In a footballing sense it’s the best thing I could have done,” he said. “To come and play in this league is very important. After that, the dressing room, the club, for me is the best, it’s the club I have.”

Getafe now have a new coach in charge in Pablo Franco and he has been given until Monday to prepare for the match against Córdoba. “We will work a lot because we have a bit more time to prepare and get used to working with Pablo, and for him to know the players he has. We already knew him, but not as a head coach. We now have a bit more time to prepare for what is a very big game for us. What’s at stake in Córdoba is important. We want to come back home with three points and some more confidence.”
