Getafe player Mehdi Lacen was knocked unconscious after clashing with Florin Andone in the 65th minute of their match against Córdoba (1-2 to Getafe). With the player still on the ground, and appearing to be suffering convulsions referee Alfonso Javier Álvarez Izquierdo refused to stop the match and waved play on.
Several players, including Lacen’s teammate Álvaro Vázquez asked club doctors for immediate assistance. The referee eventually decided to stop play, but rather than going to see the situation of the injured Lacen, booked Alexis first.
Lacen was attended to by doctors where he had fallen, and then moved to the touchlines where they continued to monitor him. Some minutes after he was allowed to rejoin the match, being given an ovation by the home fans.
