Sergio Ramos: “Ancelotti deserves respect”

Sergio Ramos spoke after tonight’s 2-0 win over Levante, with the defender playing the entire match and looking solid after coming back from injury.

The Bernabéu is a demanding stadium (some in the crowd whistled several players, including Bale, as well as Ancelotti)

It was difficult, because of the [poor] run, but a wake-up call is never a bad thing. The demands here are higher than at any other place. I’ve been here for many years and we’ve been through every type of situation - this isn’t worrying at all. We need to be more united than ever, go to the Camp Nou looking to win and showing our best form. Today was a good chance to gain confidence.

Pressure on the team

This is Real Madrid. Whoever isn’t ready for it shouldn’t wear the badge. Everything here has a repercussion. The wake-up call is positive, to bring us together, know we can give more. The affection from the fans is very positive. I’ve been whistled, but I’ve also been to Cibeles with a million people.

The season

It’s early to talk about it, it was also too early at the start of the season. We’ve achieved nothing yet. There are two tough months left [and after that] we can assess the season.

Cristiano’s match (he looked frustrated at missing several chances)

Being Cristiano is difficult, he’s been at such a high level for so many years. He knows that better than anyone. He’s used to scoring 60 goals and when he gets 40 he’s not happy, that’s his character. We’re not worried about him gesturing. We need to be optimistic, we know what he brings to the side.

Ancelotti being criticised

If there’s a coach who deserves respect, with what others have been allowed to do or forgiven for, it’s Ancelotti. Is he the best I’ve had? One of them.
