Visitors to AS.com have already picked their ideal starting line-ups for the Madrid derby in the Champions League tonight. For Madrid, the main talking point surrounds the absence of Gareth Bale and the inclusion of Isco and James to play together. For Atlético, AS.com users have selected the same backbone that led Atleti to glory last season: Godin-Miranda at the back and Gabi-Tiago in midfield.
The eleven picked by AS.com users to line up for Madrid is: Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; James, Kroos, Modric, Isco; Cristiano and Benzema. For the fans there were no doubts surrounding the goalkeeper or defence. Iker Casillas received four times as many votes as Keylor Navas, while Raphael Varane’s numbers leave him far from a starting role. In midfield nothing was left to debate given Sami Khedira, Lucas Silva and Asier Illarramendi received little support. The big question surrounded Bale, but he found himself out of the starting line-up after receiving more than 16,900 votes.
The Atlético line-up picked by AS.com users is: Oblak; Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Gámez; Gabi, Tiago, Arda, Koke, Griezmann; and Mandzukic. In this eleven, Oblak received four times as many votes as Moya, who until recently was the regular starter in goal. It seems that the penalty shoot-out victory against Bayer Leverkusen has weighed things heavily in Oblak’s favour. At the back, Gámez just squeezes Siqueira out, while Godín and Miranda received the bulk of the votes ahead of Giménez. In midfield there is no doubt. Mario, Raúl García and Saúl are not well supported to make the starting eleven. In attack, Torres and Raúl Jiménez did not even receive half of the votes that Mandzukic or Griezmann received.
