Benzema certain to miss Málaga game

Real Madrid took to the training pitches in Valdebebas this morning to put in one final session to prepare for tomorrow’s league visit from Málaga. Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale both returned to work out with the rest of the squad but the good news was short-lived for Carlo Ancelotti.

The French striker, who was seen with heavy strapping to his right leg, had to quit the session during the opening warm-up rounds of piggy in the middle after complaining of twinges to his right knee – a consequence of the knock he took in Tuesday’s Champions League meting with Atlético. While the squad list for Saturday’s game has yet to be announced, it’s almost certain that Benzema will not figure as he has been unable to train as normal for the past two days. Pending further updates from Madrid’s medical services, he remains doubtful for Wednesday’s return leg against Atleti.

Bale meanwhile has been experiencing fitness problems since last month’s Clásico and exercised inside the gym on Thursday but returned to train as normal this morning. The only other news from Friday’s session was the presence of Under-19s goalkeeper Marcos Lavin, who was called to train alongside the senior players.
