Valencia President Amadeo Salvo was clear about the situation concerning in-demand full-back José Luis Gayà, who is being tracked by a number of Europe’s top sides including Real Madrid: “Gayà will renew with Valencia, he’s not joining Madrid”, he told a group of journalists during the inauguration of the club’s new Foundation.
Salvo was reluctant to talk about Gayà at first and avoided questions on the matter until after the event when he clarified the situation to a handful of reporters. “You can quote me on that in your respective newspapers”, Salvo said, adding that negotiations to renew the player’s contract are still ongoing.
Peter Lim, who paid a visit to the club recently, is adamant that Gayà is a key piece in the Valencia team and has taken the decision to revise the defender’s contract, which expires in June 2018. Diario AS reported a while ago that Valencia would sell the player for 18 million euros should he decide not to renew terms with the club. Real Madrid and Manchester City both have that fee ready to secure Gayà’s services in case he opts to moves. However, Salvo has made it clear that the player will continue at Valencia – much to the relief of supporters.
