Historical. Atlético are the first team who have not lost a match against Real Madrid after playing six official matches in the same season (four wins and two draws). They can take that to eight if they are successful in the Champions League. To date, they have faced off in the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga and the Copa del Rey and Atleti came out on top in the Super Cup, won both of the league fixtures and eliminated Madrid from the cup. Atlético also played Barcelona six times last season and went unbeaten (one win and five draws) but were not the first side to do it since Espanyol also achieved the feat.
Mis-firing. Real Madrid have lose their last three matches at the home of Atleti without scoring a goal for the first time in their history. Madrid went down 1-0 at the Calderón in the Spanish Super Cup, lost 2-0 in the Copa del Rey and 4-0 in the league. In the latter Madrid did not even fire a shot on target.
Overwhelming at home. The outcomes from matches at the Vicente Calderón this season have been overwhelmingly in favour of Atleti. Three games, three wins seven goals four and none against.
Overall balance: 12-4. The head-to-head in goals between the two teams is also overwhelmingly in favour of Atleti in the six games in all competitions this season. Simeone’s side come out on top 12-4. Madrid scored in the Spanish Super Cup (1-1), at home in the league (1-2) and in the cup (2-2) – all at the Bernabéu.
End of the streak. In the 37 official matches that Real Madrid had played up until February 7 (the last time the sides met) Madrid had scored in 34. The three games they did not find the back of the net in all came against Atleti.
The 4-0. Real Madrid had not lost by four or more goals in an official match since the 5-0 at the Camp Nou on November 29, 2013.
