Thomas Vermaelen, Barcelona's 15-million-euro summer signing from Arsenal, has finally been given the all-clear to join the first-team squad. The Belgium international has recovered from a muscle injury that he sustained during the World Cup and that has until now prevented Luis Enrique from including him in a match-day squad.
The Barcelona official website reported on Thursday that Vermaelen, 28, is available for inclusion in the squad to face Granada at Camp Nou this weekend. A central defender also comfortable at left back, Vermaelen's recovery coincides with the news that Douglas, who made his Barcelona debut in the 0-0 draw at Málaga on Wednesday, is suffering from a fever and is a doubt for the Granada game.
Vermaelen played 63 minutes of Barcelona B's friendly against Indonesia's under-19s on Wednesday and scored the opening goal in a 6-0 win.
