Isco jokes: "My state of mind? I’m bloody brilliant"

Isco Alarcón, the Real Madrid playmaker, spoke this morning at the Spain Under-21 training camp. The 22-year-old called for more first-team action at Real Madrid and said he understood his call-up to the Under-21 set-up as Albert Celades’ side prepare for their double header against Serbia. The two matches will form part of Spain Under-21s’ qualification campaign for the European Under-21 Championship and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

His role: “Everyone dreams of playing with the senior team but right now I am with the Under-21s and I should do my best. They´re both very important if you want to move forward.”

Real Madrid: “I am working to secure more first-team action, but it is not easy to do that at a team like Real Madrid. In the minutes that I have had I have tried to do everything well. There are players in the senior Spain squad who have not played much for their clubs this season, so there is the possibility that I could play there too.”

Affection from the fans: “From what I have read the people love me and I appreciate it. This is why I try to do the best that I can when I play.”

The changing of the guard: “Playing for Spain will always demand a lot because of how much the team has won in recent years. There are players who have given everything for Spanish football and you have to trust them.”

Leadership: “It might be from experience, having been one of the leaders during the last European Under-21 Championship, but there are many (leaders) and other youngsters who have come and made a strong impression and they make us a team.”

Serbia: “They are very tough, their tactics will be strong. For me, it will be an even tie. They should also take care with us because we know how to play good football. We know what is at stake – qualification for the European Under-21 Championship and the Olympic Games.”

State of mind: “I´m bloody brilliant. A footballer always wants more. It would be easy to give up, but I am going to continue to work hard for when the coach hands me first-team opportunities.”

Munir: “He looks pretty good to me. He has taken advantage of the opportunities given to him by Luis Enrique. He has not looked out of place at all.”
