Arrasate: La Real to make sacking official on Monday

Real Sociedad's board of directors has informed Jagoba Arrasate that he will cease to be manager of the club as of Monday morning. The side's home defeat against Málaga on Saturday was the final straw as far as the directorate was concerned and Monday's training session at Zubieta will be taken by youth team coach Asier Santana. The club is expected to make an official announcement shortly.

The Real board will now have to step up negotiations to find a replacement to lead the side as quickly as possible, with a new manager possibly in place in time for the match against Atlético at Anoeta next Sunday. The three names at the top of the club's list are former Manchester United and Everton boss David Moyes, former Betis and West Brom manager Pepe Mel and Thomas Tuchel, who left Mainz in May after leading the Bundesliga side to the Europa League last season.

Arrasate took over at Anoeta at the start of the 2013-14 season, replacing Philippe Montanier after the Frenchman had led la Real into the Champions League and promptly departed for Stade Rennais. La Real crashed out of the Champions League in the group phase, but ended the domestic season in seventh and qualified for the Europa League playoff rounds. Although the side beat Aberdeen 5-2 on aggregate, they then lost over two legs to Krasnodar and failed to reach the group stage, casting the first doubts on the viability of Arrasate's continued tenure at the club. In the league, Arrasate has been in the dugout for 48 matches, with a record of 17 wins, 14 draws and 17 defeats. The side currently resides in the relegation zone in Primera.
