Cristiano and Pepe, last players to join up with Portugal squad

Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe were the last two players to join up with the rest of the Portuguese national squad ahead of their forthcoming games against Armenia and Argentina.

Both players arrived this evening at Faro airport and went straight to the team hotel to join the rest of the team. The squad earlier carried out a light training session in the gym.

Both players had secured previous permission from the FPF (Portuguese football Federation) to arrive late as Cristiano was obliged to attend a presentation gala in which he picked up prizes for best player and top goal scorer for the season 2013/14.

The Portuguese national team, with new coach, Fernando Santos on the bench will be looking to record a home win in Friday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Armenia to get their campaign back on track.

The last home game saw Portugal beaten by Albania (0-1) and the fall-out saw the sacking of former coach, Paulo Bento.

With Santos in place, the Portuguese recorded an impressive away win against Denmark and a win against Armenia in Lisbon could see them top their qualifying group.

After Friday’s game, the squad fly to England where they play an international friendly against Argentina on November 18th at Old Trafford (Manchester).
