Griezmann: "Benzema is my example; he had to be strong"

How have you found the start of your Atlético Madrid career?

Impeccable! At the moment I am alternating between the pitch and the bench, but it is a learning process. I learn a lot with my new teammates and with the coach. I give everything I can in every minute that he gives me.

Diego Simeone has the reputation of being a very demanding coach…

He asks a lot from me and that is what I like - that he asks me to be good all of the time, in all of the matches. It’s true that I have this small bit of pressure, but it goes well and I need it. As is often said, you always play better with a little bit of pressure, but being on the pitch always makes me happy.

Earning yourself a place in the French national team should also be a great motivation…

I want to earn myself a starting role at Atlético. I know that I have to work hard in the training sessions and to be good during the matches. It’s the same with the national team, we must give everything and that will come with the work.

Do you see Karim Benzema much in Madrid?

No, not a lot because we have matches every three days, but we often speak through messages.

Is he an example for you?

Yes, because at Real Madrid he had some slightly difficult moments, but he was always strong mentally. You have to learn. I know that I have to be strong mentally and the rest will come.

Are you always happy when you play with the national team?

Yes, it’s always a great honour to wear that shirt, and being with that group is fantastic. I treat each squad get-together as a learning moment. We have a good group, both on and off the pitch, and we have to prepare well for Euro 2016. I’m sure we will do it well.
