"Joining Madrid would be a step up in my career" - Lucas Silva

Real Madrid have stated that they will not be entering the winter transfer market but Lucas Silva claims that anything can happen when trading opens on 2 January despite what Madrid say.

The midfielder is due back at work with Cruzeiro on 7 January and in the meantime, he is enjoying his Christmas holidays after picking up the Silver Boot award for being the best midfielder of last season in Série A. “I am expected back in work next month; there have been a lot of rumours and speculation regarding a possible move to Real Madrid. The winter transfer window isn’t open in Europe until January but once the market opens, anything can happen,” Lucas Silva told Globoesporte after taking part in the ‘Neymar and Friends’ charity match in Uberlândia.

Cruzeiro directors have confirmed that there have been a number of meetings with Real Madrid but none of those encounters have produced an offer of 15 million euros – the figure the Brazilian club has placed on their prized midfielder. “When I say that the European transfer market isn’t open, I am referring to the speculation. A lot of stories are coming out in the press and I am getting a lot of questions about Real Madrid. All I can say is that there is nothing decided. I am a Cruzeiro player, I had a good season last year and anything might happen at a later date. I have my own objectives and challenges. It would be a dream and a step forward in my career,” the player continued.

Lucas Silva added that he won’t be putting pressure on Cruzeiro to release him because he wouldn’t do that to “such a marvellous club”. He explained, “We would have to reach an agreement which benefits me and Cruzeiro but I am happy where I am. I am in a marvellous team and I want to continue making history”.
