There are plenty (the majority granted, are not Atleti fans) who are questioning the arrival of Fernando Torres back home to the Calderon. I’m convinced that by the end of the season we’ll see the results being conclusive and that Torres return is a positive addition to Simeone’s squad. He will adapt quickly, his physical power is at its peak and club physical trainer, Oscar Ortega, who previously claimed that he never worked with anyone who had the same physical prowess as Torres will have him fine tuned in no time. His compromise and enthusiasm to do well at Atleti are factors which Simeone likes and he will have the undivided support of the Calderon faithful. He’s idolized by the supporters and coming 'home' is an honor for any Atlético player and fan. Cholo, who is a major advocator of the 4-4-2 formation, will now have the perfect partner to accompany Mandzukic and El Niño spares no expense at tracking back too.
Fernando is a resource the Atleti squad have been longing for, make no mistake of that. Torres is a player that suffers when his team is in possession as it forces him to play in reduced playing areas. It doesn’t matter if the team retains 75% possession but Torres thrives on that ability to make inroads into those limited spaces left by the opposition. El Niño Torres is at the height of his physical and mental powers and will have keen to make his mark as soon as possible. He left at a time when he’d outgrown the team and now returns and with the aid of: Simeone, Mono Burgos and ‘Profe’ Ortega he is in a great position to re-establish himself with this Atletico Madrid team.
