Pau Gasol scores 23 points against his former team

It would be just too obvious to talk about of last night’s game in Chicago as the “revenge of Pau Gasol” , as it wouldn’t be exactly accurate. It’s not really a case of revenge when in the case of Pau, he chose to leave the Lakers after his long, faithful and successful time in Los Angeles. This the is way things work out in sport. Initially the Lakers got tired of him, subsequently he then began to tire of the Lakers. In the end, he moved to Chicago, despite an improved financial offer from the Los Angeles franchise, when they realized that they weren’t going to be able to sign any better player than the Spaniard. His desire to move and look for a third ring elsewhere was as his legitimate as the Lakers attempts to try and retain the player. This is the way the NBA works and it’s the same premise that saw Gasol move from Memphis to Los Angeles where he disputed three consecutive finals.

Last night Gasol was instrumental in seeing the Bulls overcome the Lakers by their biggest winning scoreline since 1997 with Pau scoring 23 points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks. His chapter in the Chicago Bulls history book is just starting, ironically at a time when his intimate friend Kobe Bryant appears to be closing his. The irony of sport.
