Former Barça player, Eric Abidal, said today (Monday) that he would rather put off a decision until later on whether to join his former club in one of two roles, either working in the football schools or as a point of communication between the first team squad and the club’s board.
The player, who retired from playing two months ago, was at an awards ceremony, where he picked up a ‘Antonín de Honor” from the cultural football magazine Panenka, before answering questions from journalists.
“I have an offer from Barcelona, but I haven’t taken a decision yet. I don’t have time. I need to think about it properly and at the moment I’m focused on [setting up] my foundation”, said Abidal, who also said he thought the offer from his former club was very interesting.
Abidal admitted he found the role involving the schools far more interesting: “It would be more logical to work with the schools, with the youngest players, because to be a point of connection between the dressing room and the board doesn’t make much sense; the players and the directors already know each other”.
