Schalke's Sidney Sam: “We’ll have chances against Madrid”

Schalke attacker Sidney Sam said today, Monday, that he was convinced his side had a chance against Real Madrid in their Champions League tie, the first leg of which will be played on Wednesday at 8.45pm (CET) in Gelsenkirchen.

“They have a world class squad full of big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and many more. If we defend in a compact manner, we will make life difficult for any team in the world. We have good players too. I’m certain that we’re going to have chances.”, said Sam on the Schalke website.

For Sam the 6-1 defeat to Madrid from last year is firmly in the past: “It’s a new season, a new situation. I think we are more stable as a team this year,” said Sam.

Belief is important to the Schalke player, above all: “Our fans believe in us, we believe in ourselves – these are key features should we wish to succeed against Real”.
