Atlético midfielder Mario Suárez hopes the Rojiblancos can “reaffirm” their identity in tomorrow’s Champions League tie against Bayer Leverkusen, by showing “sacrifice, intensity and competitiveness”. The player also said that Atleti are not overly concerned with the dip in the number of goals they’ve been scoring.
"Bayer Leverkusen go into the game with an advantage, which means that we have to get the first goal,” he said in this evening’s press conference. “The objective is to make the next round but to do that we’ll have to give 100 per cent and show our best side. The coach and the technical staff have told us exactly what we need to do. We’ve had time to prepare for this game and above all else, we have to be competitive and intense. We’re at the Calderón, with our people but we have to be at our best to go through”.
The midfielder says the lack of goals in recent games is nothing to worry about. “We’re not worried; all of our forwards are internationals – they’re world class players who, sooner or later, will score. All they need is to get one for us to push us closer to our objective”.
