Barcelona's big opportunity

Tonight Barcelona have the chance to take advantage of PSG’s absences when the Parisian side will be without three of their four indispensible players for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash. Blanc goes into the game against the Catalans with the spine of his team missing. In defence David Luiz will miss out (his inclusion in the squad is more of a surprise than him being an effective weapon), in the middle Blanc will not be able to count on the formidable Verratti or Motto and in attack Ibrahimovic will miss the match.

Leaving aside the drama of the unexpected call-up for David Luiz, Barcelona will never have an opportunity like the one tonight to take advantage against an opponent that has a great squad but that will go into the game without three key starters.

Luis Enrique has already visited the Parc des Princes in the group stages and fell to a 3-2 defeat. On that occasion it is worth remembering that the Parisians were without Thiago Silva, Ibrahimovic and Lavezzi. On that day, Lucas Moura, Pastore and an immense Verratti took advantage of a fledgling Barcelona that made mistakes. The French side were better but still, Jordi Alba had the draw at his feet.

Maturity. Therefore, it is assumed that the game tonight will be a test of maturity for both sides. Certainly, when they met last September, PSG were a more complete team. Now, Barcelona has to complete the whole job, adding the things that were missing from their first visit to face the French giants.

Barça arrive without Dani Alves. It will be a good opportunity to see just how important the Brazilian is to them as discussions surrounding his contract renewal with the club continue. Montoya has all the numbers to fill in for him. The rest of the team will be Luis Enrique’s strongest. For the many outbursts of Neymar, it would be a surprise to see the coach passing the bill on an opportunity such as this.
