Danilo is Madrid's fourth signing in as many months

Real Madrid are stepping up their policy of signing young and promising players for the future. That has been showcased over the last four months, with four signings with clear views to the future: young players with great prospects to shore up both the first team and act as back-up.

The story began on December 5 when Madrid announced the signing of Marco Asensio. The Mallorca striker signed a six-year deal for €3.9 million but remained on-loan with Mallorca until the end of the season. He will join-up with Madrid next season with the aim of playing in the first-team squad or being loaned out to another top-flight team to continue his development.

Almost a month-and-a-half later, on January 22, the second stone was set: after a process of auditioning all of Europe’s biggest clubs, Norwegian Martin Ødegaard arrived at Madrid on a six-year deal from Stromsgodset in exchange for €2.3 million, rising to €3.4 million based on add-ons. He joined immediately, although with Zidane’s Castilla side.

Only a day after Ødegaard’s arrival it was the turn of Lucas Silva, the Brazilian midfielder who went straight into the first team squad on his arrival from Cruzeiro. He signed for €14 million until 2020. Finally, the signing of Danilo was confirmed and he will arrive in July to compete for the right-back spot with Dani Carvajal.
