Agent claims: “Di María did not demand eight million”

“Di María never requested eight million and was prepared to stay for less than he is getting at United”, commented Eugenio López, the players’ agent in a radio interview last night on COPE Radio.

The figures: “There was no offer from Madrid before the World Cup. The player never demanded a salary of eight million and would have been prepared to stay for less, although there was one club prepared to offer him more. The plan was to negotiate after the tournament and the intention was always for Di María to stay in Madrid. Ángel simply wanted to earn what was promised to him and would have been prepared to stay for less than his salary in England.”

Salary increase request: “His contract took him through to 2018 but naturally he wanted to move forward and progress. Madrid then signed Kroos and James. This was a sign that something was up. James wasn’t signed because Di María wanted to leave, they are very different players.”

The club: “We began negotiations but it seemed the club didn’t want to make headway. I’m referring to what Florentino Pérez said”.

The fans: “When he played in the final of the Super Cup against Atleti it was excellent. He received fantastic support. Although his team are Rosario Central he also loves Real Madrid. He may have made a mistake or two at the club, but nothing significant.”

Dedication: “He went to play in Dortmund just three hours after his daughter was born after a complicated birth process”.

Departure communiqué: “He wasn’t referring to Florentino in his departure announcement, Ángel can tell you that himself. The last thing he wanted to do was create instability at the club”.

Ancelotti: “He did everything in his powers to ensure that Di María remained at the club”.
