Greifswald SV are demanding 60,000 euros from Real Madrid for Toni Kroos. The club, who play in the sixth tier of German football, want 0.25% of the transfer fee that Real Madrid paid to Bayern Munich for the midfielder during the summer. The European champions paid 30m euros for the Germany international, hence why Greifswald SV are seeking 60,000 euros for the player’s training and development. Kroos started out at Greifswald SV and stayed there until he was 12, when he went, as a youth player, to Hansa Rostock, who received 300,000 euros for the four years he spent with them. In 2006 he moved to Bayern Munich's youth ranks.
Michael Ludeke, Greifswald’s president, explained that he has already sent a letter to Real Madrid to ask for that money and that if he is not answered he will go to FIFA and claim it is his club’s right. He will make his claim based on a statute of the international sport body which recognises that a percentage of 0.25% of the transfer fee is applicable to clubs where the player was until the age of 12, the age at which Kroos was still at his home-town club. Greifswald SV is the legal successor to Greifswald SC, the club that disappeared in 2004.
