Luis Suárez scores his first Liga goal after 577 minutes

Luis Suárez has finally scored his first La Liga goal. The Uruguayan, who made his debut at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 25, scored the second goal in Barcelona’s 5-0 victory over Córdoba on Saturday after 577 minutes without finding the back of the net in La Liga. The Camp Nou, which was keen to see him celebrate, applauded wildly.

Suárez scored his first Barça goal during the victory in the Champions League at APOEL. It ended a spell of 393 minutes without a goal. He also scored against PSG in the same competition and has contributed six assists.

After the match, Súarez was delighted: “I kissed my fingers for my wife and for my two children, who stayed at home. I was able to score, and that leaves me more relaxed. I do not know if we were hurting but the draw at Getafe did bother us. We had to show we wanted to fight for La Liga. I am a forward so I have to score goals, but I am also helping the team achieve victories, so I am not obsessed by it.”

He added: “The victory is important for the team, that is the main thing and it has been achieved. On a personal level I was hurting but I am always happy to have come here, to have signed for Barça. We have to turn the situation around.”
