Jesé has fully recovered from his knee injury but he wants to continue improving. That is why he will not stop for holidays over Christmas. Yesterday he travelled to Gran Canaria (‘his’ island) and was accompanied by a physiotherapist from the club in order to continue working to get back to his best physically.
The Canary Islands forward played 80 minutes (34 against Cornellà, 31 against Ludogorets and 15 in the Club World Cup semi-final against Cruz Azul) in the last 20 days since returning to first-team football and he has not felt any discomfort in his kne (in the last training session he worked freely without any protection). He scored in the Copa del Rey match (his ninth in 1277 minutes since breaking into the first team) and was delighted, but was also honest: “I still have rhythm”. So he will not stop.
During his 259 days sidelined through injury Ancelotti said: With Jesé, the league would have been different.” The statement is an example of the confidence the Italian has in the striker and he believes the best way for him to fully return is in January, when Madrid has an avalanche of matches (Valencia, Atlético twice, Espanyol, Getafe, Córdoba and a possible double clash with Barça in the cup).
Furthermore, it is not the first time that Jesé has continued to work during the holidays. Since last summer, Carlos Heredia, the club phsyio, accompanied him to Gran Canaria to help improve his knee. Now the goal is different. He wants to get back the top level that helped him shine so impressively last season. In addition, he has on the horizon the Champions League match against Schalke, the side he suffered his injury against last season.
