Ramos, the hero of the finals, is hoping to reach an agreement

Sergio Ramos, as in Lisbon, was the hero of the final in Marrakech. His clever header after 36 minutes, which beat Argentine goalkeeper Torrico, opened the sky for Ancelotti’s side to win their first Club World Cup. The centre-back celebrated by running to the sidelines, turning his back and pointing with both thumbs down to signify the pride in his name and number.

An undisguised call continued into the mixed zone after the match: “I have always been a player who has liked scoring goals and players who are worth good money are worth that because of their goals.” The message was sent. As is already known, his current contract ends in 2017. Ramos signed a new deal in 2011, the same the club announced the renewal of Pepe’s contract until 2016.

But since Sergio saw that new deal others have passed through the Bernabéu offices to get new contracts of their own. Players like Varane (renewed until 2020), Benzema (until 2019), Modric (2018) and Pepe have all seen their contracts improved.

For Ramos it is not a financial issue, more recognition from the club that he has become a key player. The crowd loves him and at 28 (he doesn’t turn 29 until March 30) he is seen as being as valuable to the club as Cristiano. In fact, he is the second captain after Iker Casillas and in the dressing room both Ancelotti and his team-mates are silent and listen when he speaks.

Price. Florentino has already addressed the issue this week on the microphones of El Larguero: “I have never had a clash with Ramos about his renewal and people even say he’s like my star child. Ramos is a Madridista and, as with Pepe, he will stay here.” In any case, as reported by De La Morena (on November 28, 2013), Florentino will only sell Ramos to another club for more than 65 million euros.

Sacchi reopened the matter when he stated in La Gazzetta that Ramos had confessed to him that Florentino wanted to pay him less when he asked to renew. The Sevilla-born defender said the next day that the comments were false, adding that “I have never been driven by money.” We’ll see who makes the next move.
