Saturday’s final will be Casillas’ 700th game for Real Madrid

Iker Casillas will celebrate an incredible 700 appearances for Real Madrid in Saturday’s Club World Cup final against Argentinean side San Lorenzo. A record only bettered by two other club legends: Raúl (741 games) and Manuel "Manolo" Sanchís (710).

Iker is certain to surpass the defenders record this very season. Unless Ancelotti decides to use Keylor Navas for certain La Liga or Champions League matches, it’s anticipated that the captain will overtake Sanchis on Jornada 24 at the end of February when Real Madrid travel to Elche. To catch up with Raúl, Casillas will have to wait for next season. In the hypothetical scenario that Madrid reach the final of both Copa del Rey and champions League, Casillas has the possibility of getting to 739 appearances, just two short of Raúl.

Anniversaries work out well for the Madrid goalkeeper. The side beat Athletic Club 2-0 on October 6, 2001 when the player from Mostoles made his 100th appearance. The won away in Vigo 0-2 for appearance 300 in October 2003. Fast forward 2012 for his 600th appearance and once again it coincided with a visit of Bilbao to the Bernabéu where Madrid ran out 4-1 winners.
