Pepe expected to be out of action for two or three weeks

Real Madrid defender Pepe was forced to leave the pitch injured in the 13th minute of the second half of the Copa del Rey clash with Atlético on Thursday night after hurting his ribs in a collision with Raúl García.

After the match the Portugal international was taken to hospital where he underwent X-rays and other tests and he will remain under observation for 48 hours, the club has confirmed. Medical reports state that the central defender will be out of action for two to three weeks with bruising to his ribs. France international defender Raphaël Varane is expected to deputize.
