Real Sociedad have contacted Arsenal with the hope of bringing Joel Campbell to Anoeta on loan in the winter transfer window. It’s an operation which, at first glance, looks feasible but depends on certain conditions which the Basque outfit have no control over. The Gunners could be open to letting the Costa Rican forward spent the rest of the season with David Moyes’ side – but only if he signs extends his current contract, which will expire in January 2016.
Campbell will be able to start negotiating with other clubs as from the summer. Arsenal, who don’t want to see the player leave on a free transfer next year, have initiated talks with the player on the matter. Although he has not said anything publicly, Campbell is reported to be unhappy with the limited playing time he has had this season and would be open to a loan until June. A return to Spain might also be appealing to the player, who shone during a year-long loan with Betis two years ago.
Real Sociedad and Arsenal enjoy a good relationship – particularly after the negotiations for Carlos Vela. Campbell meanwhile, is represented by the Idub Santos Group, an agency with whom Real Sociedad’s technical department deal with regularly.
