It was a day to remember for Leo Messi. On the day he made his 300th league appearance for Barcelona, he celebrated with a hat trick against Levante and set up the opener for Neymar to become the player to have provided the most assists in La Liga history. Messi took his assists tally to 106, overtaking Luis Figo, when his cross was volleyed in by Neymar 16 minutes into today’s game at Camp Nou.
The Argentinean went on to add Barça’s next three goals to register his 23rd league hat trick (pulling him level with record holder Cristiano Ronaldo) as well as Telmo Zarra’s record of 31 hat tricks in all competitions in Spanish football. It was the 34th hat trick of his career, including those he has scored with Argentina.
