Laporte misses out on Madrid match owing to fever

Ernesto Valverde has named his squad to face Real Madrid on Saturday but there is no Aymeric Laporte. The defender has been suffering from a fever in recent days and missed last weekend's match against Eibar, although he did feature in the midweek cup success at Espanyol.

The absence of Laporte, along with the suspension of Mikel San José, has disrupted the plans of coach Ernesto Valverde. He could move Gurpegui into midfield but with the current injuries the 34-year-old could play in the centre of his side's defence.

Athletic squad: Iraizoz, Toquero, Aurtenetxe, Beñat, De Marcos, Ibai, Susaeta, Iraola, X.Etxeita, Mikel Rico, Gurpegui, Muniain, Aduriz, Guillermo, Balenziaga, Remiro, Unai López and Williams.
