Madrid have their target set for the title: 27 points

Madrid go into the final stages of the league campaign clinging to the good feeling brought about from their 9-1 victory over Granada. They hope that will rub off on the remaining nine matches of the season for both Barça and Madrid. On Concha Espina they have done the math and the team has set a mission: adding the remaining 27 points.

With these points, Madrid hope to be able to sing their celebratory songs if they make up the four points they currently trail the leaders by. Barcelona need to drop points with at least two draws before the end of the season. Barcelona have that four-point cushion but if the final points are level, Ancelotti’s men will win the title owing to their better head-to-head record. Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 at the Bernabéu and lost 2-1 at the Camp Nou. Looking at the remaining matches the Catalans have to contest, three stand out and are underlined in red: trips to the Pizjuan, Cornellà-El Prat and the Calderón.

Barça’s visit to Sevilla takes place on Saturday (20:00 CET) and they will have Madrid breathing down their necks if Ancelotti’s side see off Eibar earlier that day (16:00). The Barcelona derby will be played on Saturday, April 25 (16:00) while Madrid will play a day later in Vigo (21:00), so they could have the incentive of knowing how Barcelona have got on.

Five at home, four away…

Neither Madrid nor Barcelona will have a favourable advantage of having more home matches. Although, after visiting Vallecas on Wednesday, Madrid will have two straight home matches at the Bernabéu (Eibar and Malaga) and Barça measure themselves against Sevilla (away) and Valencia (at home).
