Chicharito or Isco for Benzema: Ancelotti’s dilemma

Isco or Chicharito is today’s poser for Ancelotti. “If I was happy at not playing, then I’d be a conformist”, explained Javier Hernández last Saturday after getting a rare start for Madrid against Eibar. This was the Mexican’s first start since October 18th when he played against Levante in the Ciutat de Valencia stadium. He celebrated his return scoring the second goal against the Basque team and hope to keep this momentum up if he gets selected by the Italian coach to line up against Málaga. There is a possibility that Ancelotti may opt for Isco, yesterday in the pre match press conference he claimed that Isco is “a player with great talent and a fundamental piece for this squad”.

Both players are hoping to replace Karim Benzema. Yesterday the French player pulled out of training with a heavily bandaged knee but later in the press conference, the Italian coach confirmed that he would be ready for Wednesday’s Champions League, despite the club not offering any official medical information regarding the nature of Benzema’s injury.

Incidentally, Chicharito has the fourth best strike rate versus minutes played ratio in La Liga tghis season. He scores a goal every 84 minutes. He’s only overtaken by: Cristiano, Kevin Gameiro (Sevilla) and Leo Messi. Griezmann (Atlético) is in fifth place in this particular ranking. It does have to be acknowledged that the Mexican’s playing time is somewhat residual, securing a great deal of his 697 minutes of playing time from the substitutes bench. Between his La Liga and Champions League playing time, the Mexican has managed five goals in the 697 minutes afforded to him. Bale for example scores once every 182 mintes and James, once every 187.
