Sir Ian Botham’s long-standing Test wickets record has finally been superseded. Jimmy Anderson took the wickets of Marlon Samuels and Dinesh Ramdin on the day five of the first Test against the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, Antigua to take his tally to 384 wickets in Test cricket, overtaking Botham’s 23-year old record of 383.
Botham watched from the commentary box as Anderson’s second ball from his fourth over was clipped by Samuels to James Tredwell. Later, West Indies captain Ramdin edged a full delivery from the Lancashire to Alastair Cook at first slip. Botham later stepped out onto the pitch to congratulate Anderson.
Anderson reaches the milestone in 100 Test appearances while the former record was reached in 102 Tests between 1977 and 1992.
