When Messi started to dazzle the world, he did it within the bosom of a pluperfect Barça. The Barça of Guardiola and of Unicef, the Barça of the pressing up top, Xavi at the front of the manoeuvre, Iniesta providing stitches with gold thread, the Puyol-Piqué centre-back partnership, Busquets at the epicentre, Alves unleashed, Víctor Valdés from time to time remedying the inevitable…incredible. It was a perfect team in which Cuenca entered and shone, in which Sergi Roberto entered and started to impress. It was there where Messi played like the angels, the maximum star of a maximum team. But with Argentina he did not do it like so. That was food for thought.
How much did Barça (which meant Guardiola, Xavi and the others) contribute and how much did Messi contribute to the excellence of this, which yielded four consecutive Ballons d’Or?
