Miranda’s future at Atlético Madrid is uncertain. The centre-back told AS on Saturday that he will try to fulfil his contract at Atlético, which expires in the summer of 2016. Last summer he had a firm offer from Manchester United and Louis van Gaal still has the Brazilian in his sights, assuming he continues on the Old Trafford bench.
For Atlético, Miranda is no longer a priority like he was last summer, when he was not allowed to leave unless a club met his €30m releause clause. The emergence of José María Giménez and the fact that Miranda turns 31 in September have made the Brazilian a saleable asset for Atlético. His agent still deals with United’s interest and the idea is that they will speak about the matter again at the end of the season.
United have been weak in defence this season and need the experience of the Brazilian.
