Carlo Ancelotti has decided to include James Rodríguez in his starting XI, in place of the suspended Isco, for Sunday’s visit of Granada. The Italian has tried out an XI featuring the Colombian during the entire week. Therefore, the playmaker will return to the field of play just two months after undergoing surgery.
On February 4, against Sevilla, James fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. The following day, he went under doctor De Prado’s knife in Murcia. Immediately after that he began work on his recovery in order to return to full fitness as soon as possible. The Colombian returned to work with the rest of his team-mates and completed a full session on March 24.
On Thursday, Ancelotti discovered that the former Monaco man is already ready for inclusion in his starting XI.
New additions. The inclusion of the Colombian will not be the only change to the starting XI that lined up against Barça at the Camp Nou. Raphaël Varane will return to the first team in place of the injured Pepe, who will miss Madrid’s next three matches. Álvaro Arbeloa will also deputise in place of Dani Carvajal, who returned from national team duty with some discomfort.
Four defeats in his absence. Madrid have noted James’ absence. It has been reflected in the team’s results over the course of the nine matches that he has missed. During this period, Madrid have won four, drawn one and lost four.
