Miralem Pjanic has been one of the most recent names linked with FC Barcelona. The versatile midfielder has come on in leaps and bounds in the last two seasons at Roma, where he has coincided with the rise of the capital club, and he has been targeted by several of the biggest sides in Europe.
However, to the surprise of many, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international last year renewed his contract with the ‘Giallorossi’ until 2018, and that is something that would complicate any possible transfer.
The footballer himself has recognised recent interest from Barcelona.
Speaking to La Repubblica, he said: “I know that Barça wanted me when I was negotiating my contract renewal.”
It must be remembered that the former Lyon man worked under Luis Enrique during the Spanish coach’s spell in Italy, and the midfielder was an important part of the current Barça coach’s brief project in Rome.
“[Luis Enrique] is, along with Rudi Garcia, the person who has taught me the most,” Pjanic added.
